How standards are developed

1Proposal

  • GECA identifies a potential new standard, either through its own research or expressions of interest
  • GECA conducts a feasibility assessment

 

2Development

  • GECA carries out investigation and research into new standard
  • GECA sets up technical advisory group (TAG) with stakeholders in relevant product category
  • GECA then consults with TAG and other stakeholders, industry experts and licensees
  • The scope and assessment criteria for the standard is defined
  • A draft is developed

 

3Public review

  • The draft standard is released for public comment

  • GECA consults with the TAG to consider submissions
  • Any relevant changes are made and a revised version is developed

4Release

  • The standard is released
  • From date of release, assessments and certification against the standard can proceed
