This standard covers water based architectural paints (both interior and exterior), student and artists paints, and other water based coatings.
GECA Certified paints meet the requirements of the VOC credit under indoor environment quality, as part of Green Star.
GECA’s Paints and Coatings standard includes criteria that address:
- Fitness for purpose
- Volatile organic compound (VOC) content
- The use of energy intensive ingredients
- Ozone depleting substances
- The use of toxic ingredients
- Heavy metals, like cobalt or chromium
- The use of ingredients toxic to humans or aquatic life
- Waste minimisation

GECA is pleased to introduce new licensee, District! District have a wide range of chairs, stools and armchairs certified with GECA under the Furniture, Fittings & Foam standard, demonstrating their commitment to producing furniture with a lower environmental, health and social impact.

GECA is pleased to welcome our newest licensee, Space Furniture! Five products from new design brand SP01, available through Space Furniture, are now certified with GECA under our Furniture, Fittings and Foam standard, showing that they have a lower environmental, health and social impact.
Welcome back: Havwoods
GECA is pleased to welcome back Havwoods, whose Europlank range is newly certified under the Floor Coverings standard! The pre-finished engineered range is from the world’s foremost producer of onestrip boards and utilizes a click fixing system for ease of installation. It is also available and certified in ‘Herringbone’.
GECA seeks input on Cement, Concrete and Concrete Products standard
Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) is developing a brand new standard for cement, concrete and concrete products. As part of the development of this standard, GECA is seeking input from industry professionals including manufacturers, construction project teams, consultants, academics and environmental organisations. The standard is open for public comment until Monday, 11 July 2016.

GECA helps develop new ISO 20400 standard
ISO20400 - the first international guidance standard for sustainable procurement - is in development by ISO (International Organisation for Standardisation), and the latest round of discussions to review the draft of the standard drew to a close earlier this month in Sydney. GECA was involved in contributing to the development of the standard.
Welcome back: Embelton Flooring
We're pleased to welcome back Embelton Flooring, who have recently achieved GECA certification for two flooring underlay products! Their Hush Platinum Polyethylene Underlay and ImpactaMat Acoustic Flooring Underlay are both certified under our Floor Coverings standard, meaning they have a lower environmental, health and social impact.

We’re pleased to welcome our newest licensee, Quarran Health Products, with their ekoWorx cleaning solution! ekoWorx is a “next-generation universal cleaning solution” that uses the science of green ionic chemistry to create an effective “clean anywhere” cleaner.

Collaborate, Innovate, Celebrate: GECA's event in-depth
GECA’s industry event centred around sustainable products, ‘Collaborate, Innovate, Celebrate’, was held on 3 March 2016 at the Lendlease Building in Sydney. It was great to see many professionals from the industry come to hear about the latest trends in sustainable production and consumption, the forthcoming ISO standard for Sustainable Procurement and GECA’s direction for the coming year.
GECA developing standard for cement and concrete products
Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) is in the process of developing a new standard for cement and concrete products. The standard is currently going through a second round of consultations with a Technical Advisory Group, and a final version of the standard is expected to be released mid-year.
New licensee: Lybase
GECA's newest licensee, Lybase, is one of the first to take advantage of GECA's GENICES recognition in gaining their certification with us, and the first to have a lighting product certified with GECA.
