     1.   Description of the Technology.

History
Formed in 2001, Therapod Seating Solutions have become one of Australia’s largest manufacturers of ergonomic seating. Supporting a national network of distributors as well as exporting to New Zealand.

Australian Made
Therapod Seating Solutions is a member of the Australia Made campaign. Manufacturing base is in Coburg Melbourne, in a 23,000 sq. ft. facility purchased in 2006. Therapod are committed to the ongoing growth and development of Australian manufacturing.

Quality Assurance
Therapod is accredited with AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000 standard since May 2004. Therapod uses this Quality Management System as a foundation for the manufacturing and sales processes to ensure consistent supply and ongoing improvement.

Government Supply
Therapod chairs are currently available on the NSW State Supply contract for task and executive seating. Therapod Seating Solutions has been a supplier to the Commonwealth government since 2001.

AFRDI
Therapod Seating Solutions is a member of the AFRDI Blue Tick program, which ensures that products are evaluated in line with the relevant Australian or international Standard.

COCA
A wide range of Therapod products have been independently assessed and endorsed by the Chiropractic and Osteopathic College of Australasia (COCA). COCA supports all health practitioners nationally, providing world’s best practices and products to their member base.

3.1 Fitness for Purpose

Therapod Seating Solutions is certified under AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000, displaying a Quality Management System for the design, manufacture and sale of office seating. Therapod Seating Solutions offers a 5 year warranty for office seating products and have an internal Quality Assurance program for their office seating.

3.2.2 Plastics
3.2.2.1 Resin Identification Codes
The resin identification codes on the plastic components of Therapod products indicate that they fall into the recyclable materials categories 5, 6 and 7. The plastic components are made of polyamide (category 6), polypropylene (category 5), and other materials (category 7).
3.2.2.3 Polyurethane padding requirements Therapod Seating Solutions uses several polyurethanes in the certified products. Therapod Seating Solutions has provided evidence (including material safety data sheets) that the polyurethane foam used in its products comply with the requirements of GECA 28-2006 Furniture and Fittings Standard.
3.2.3 Fabrics The Therapod Seating Solutions range of office chairs can be upholstered to customer specifications. The range of fabrics available Therapod Seating Solutions customers includes Environmental Choice Australia (ECA), Nordic Swan and EU Flower fabrics. The chairs are only fully certified when upholstered with certified fabrics or sold as ‘white furniture’ (unupholstered).
3.2.5 Adhesives Therapod Seating Solutions uses water-based, low VOC adhesive products.
3.3 Hazardous Materials A review of the production ingredients has demonstrated that the certified Therapod Seating Solutions products do not contain hazardous materials.
3.3.2 Prohibited Substances Analysis of the production ingredients has demonstrated that the certified Therapod Seating Solutions products do not contain prohibited substances including carcinogens.
3.4.1 Separability Separability of the Therapod certified products was confirmed during an on-site product inspection. The products are easily separable for recycling using common tools.
3.4.2 Product Custodianship The Managing Director of Therapod Seating Solutions has confirmed that products will be accepted at the conclusion of their consumer life-cycle. The returned products are assessed for usability or to confirm that they should be dismantled and the component parts recycled. In cases where the product is deemed to have further usability, Therapod Seating Solutions will work with a nominated party so that the product may be re-used.
3.4.3 Coatings/ Treatments The only coating used on the Therapod Seating Solutions products during manufacture is a silicone spray. The MSDS for this product confirms that none of its ingredients are likely to prevent recycling of the product.
3.4.4 Replacement Parts The Policy Statement provided by Therapod Seating Solutions indicates that all ‘moving-part’ components will be replaced while available. The Policy also states that Therapod Seating Solutions observes a strict component selection program regarding the quality and consistency of supplying manufacturers to ensure minimal changes to product components as well as a reliable supply for the majority of parts.
3.4.7 Packaging Requirements The packaging used on the Therapod Seating Solutions certified products includes cardboard boxes, and several forms of plastic. The plastic bags used to protect chairs are made from low density Polyethylene (LDPE). This material is recyclable and Therapod will switch to packaging which includes a recycling symbol. A member from packaging company has confirmed that the new packaging for Therapod products will be marked with a resin code indicating that the bags are category 4 recyclable LDPE.
3.4.8 Product Information The Guarantee issued with each chair, and labels attached to the products, indicate the intended use of the product as well as maintenance information. The warranty information provided clearly outlines the terms so that the life of the chair may be extended through correct storage and maintenance. Additional labels also outline correct care of fabrics and covers.
4.0 Compliance to Environmental Regulations The Managing Director of Therapod Seating Solutions has issued GECS with a signed statement confirming that the company has not been involved in any prosecutions, at any time, which have resulted in a guilty verdict.
5.0 Compliance to Labour, Anti- Discrimination and Safety Regulations Therapod Seating Solutions has provided GECS with evidence that the company operates under relevant Labour Laws. The Managing Director has also provided a statement that Therapod Seating Solutions has not been prosecuted for breaches of Labour laws, Anti-Discrimination Legislation or Safety regulations.

        3. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations:

 

GECA also found the Therapod range to be fully compliant with their obligations under Labour, Anti-Discrimination, and Safety Regulations. The company has not been the subject of prosecution in relation to compliance with labour, anti- discrimination, safety regulations and environmental regulations.
