Tait Enterprises was founded in 1992 by husband and wife team Gordon and Susan
Tait. In 2004 industrial designer Justin Hutchinson joined the team to assist with the conceptual development of new product ranges.
Tait
produce outdoor furniture, garden walls and screens,
and garden panels.

Description of the
Technology.
All products and concepts are conceived, designed and produced in Tait’s inner city warehouse in Collingwood Melbourne. Today Tait is a manufacturing and retail enterprise with national and international distribution channels.

Fitness for Purpose |
GECS has received numerous
testimonials from large commercial operations stating that these
products are fit for purpose. In addition these products are
covered by a five year warranty. |

Timber and Other Natural Materials |
The timber and cellulose fibre
contained in some of these nominated products is sourced from
two companies. GECS has confirmed that both of these companies
hold AFS certified chain of custody certificates in accordance
with AS 4707. |

Treatment |
The timber and cellulose fibre
material that occurs in some of these nominated products has not
been treated or impregnated with fungicides or insecticides that
are classified due to their hazardous nature by the IARC as Type
1 or 2a. |
|
Air Emissions |
The supplier of the high pressure
laminate is certified to ISO14001 and GECS has confirmed this
company holds a current De Blauer Engel certificate. |

Resin Identification Codes |
Only one of these certified
products has a plastic component over 100g and this drip tray in
the garden wall is clearly labeled with the appropriate resin
identification code for end of life recycling. |

Additives |
GECS has confirmed that no
hazardous or prohibited additives are used in the manufacturing
of these nominated products or used during cleaning of the
production equipment. |

Glass |
The glass optioned table top for
the Jil table is made from clear toughened float glass which
meets the requirements of this criterion. |
|
Adhesives |
The VOC content of the glue used
in some of these products has been calculated by GECS and found
to be less than half of the allowable limit as stated in the
requirements of this criterion. |
|
Metals and Alloys |
The metal components of these
products are resistant to corrosion either by being stainless
steel or treated mild steel. No prohibited substances are used
in the treatment of this steel and this treatment will not
prevent its end of life recycling. |

Coatings and Waterproofing
Treatments |
The waterproofing treatment used
on the wooden components of these products extends the useful
life of these products and does not prevent their end of life
recycling. |
|
Hazardous Materials |
GECS has confirmed that no
hazardous or prohibited substances are used in the manufacturing
of these nominated products or used during cleaning of the
production equipment. |
|
Separability |
These nominated Tait products are
separable into their constituent materials without the use of
specialised tools or expertise. |
|
Product Custodianship |
Tait Enterprises have a product
custodianship policy in place and will accept back furniture at
their end of life for recycling at no additional cost apart from
transportation. |
|
Replacement Parts |
These products are covered with a
warranty that states that replacement parts will be made
available upon request. This warranty is valid for 5 years from
date of purchase. |
|
Recycled Content Requirements |
The stainless steel and aluminium
components of these products have a minimum of 60% and 95%
recycled content respectively. This exceeds the requirements of
this criterion of 20% and 35% respectively. |

Packaging Requirements |
These nominated products are
packaged in recyclable bubble wrap that is not chlorinated or
halogenated. |

These products are delivered with
a care and maintenance document and further information is
available on their website which includes product custodianship. |

3. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations:
GECA also found the Tait range to
be fully compliant with their obligations under Labour,
Anti-Discrimination, and Safety Regulations. The company
has not been the subject of prosecution in relation to
compliance with labour, anti- discrimination, safety
regulations and environmental regulations in the past 24
months.
