Description of the
Technology.
Beclau is a family owned business that commenced operations in The Netherlands in 1993, relocating to Sydney in 2003.
Beclau manufactures furniture from solid timber and veneer. Their product range is available in a variety of FSC timbers and veneers and can be customised to meet the client’s particular requirements.
In addition, Beclau specialises in joinery for high-end commercial and residential interiors.
2. The Products
Beclau Coffee Tables: 3 Tough Guys, Brooklyn, Parelho, Paris and Shaft.
Beclau Tables: Andron, Apolinere, Apolinere II, Altar,
Chev, Koko, Mombassa, Pal, Paracas, Parelho, Parelho Extend,
Rockwell, Shaft, Sylea, Toth, Wedge and Wing.
Beclau Sideboards: Barca, Berlin, Palafita, Alte, Amsterdam,
Atella, Parelho, Cassandra and 3 Tough Guys.
Beclau Bedroom: Cleopatra Jones, Sweetback
Beclau Ofiice: Altar, Black Caesar 2, Inca (Table and Cabinet),
Koko, Pal, Rockwell, Wedge, Asten Cupboard, Asten Drawers and Plan.

Fitness for Purpose |
Beclau Design Furniture have been
making furniture for clients worldwide since 1993. Beclau have
systematic procedures for Quality Assurance in place. Beclau
products are covered by a standard 5 year warranty relating to
structural defects. |

Timber and Other Natural materials |
Beclau source wood from
sustainably managed forestry operations. The chain of custody
has been certified according to Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC)
requirements. |

Treatment |
Wood products are not treated or
impregnated with substances classified by the IARC as type 1 or
2A for carcinogenicity. |
|
Glues in Plywood and Laminated
Wood |
The free formaldehyde content in
the glues used to bond processed wood components does not exceed
1.0% w/w. |
|
Air Emissions |
The Processed wood components of
the certified Beclau products to not exceed the limits for
formaldehyde emissions described in this criterion. This was
established by laboratory assessment according to standard
international test methods. |

Glass |
The Brooklyn coffee table is the
only product containing glass. To be sold as certified no option
can be specified that does not meet the requirements of this
criterion in the standard (ie. Lead glazing, crystal glass,
laminated glass, wire reinforced or coloured glass). |
|
Adhesives |
The adhesives used in the
manufacture of the certified Beclau furniture are waterbased,
low in Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and do not contain any
hazardous materials restricted in the GECA Adhesives Standard. |

Hazardous Materials |
Hazardous substances restricted
under this criteria in the GECA Furniture and Fittings Standard
are not used in the certified Beclau furniture products.
Previously a nonconformant substance was used to clean stainless
steel, during the assessment it was confirmed that this product
will no longer be used. |

Separability |
Beclau products certified under
the BEC-2008 Licence are separable into constituent materials
without the use of specialized tools or expertise. |
|
Product Custodianship |
Beclau will accept back unwanted
furniture items for refurbishment or recycling at no additional
cost to the consumer apart from transport to the company’s
facility in Waterloo, Sydney. |
|
Coatings / Treatments |
The only coatings or treatments
that would prevent post consumer recycling are used to further
extend the useful life of the furniture piece. |
|
Replacement Parts |
Functionally compatible components
are available for mechanical parts subject to wear, for a period
of five years. |
|
Packaging Requirements |
Foam/bubble wrap and blankets are
used to ensure furniture is protected during delivery. The
Polyethylene (PE) plastic is not halogenated and can be
recycled. The blankets are reused by delivery crews on following
deliveries. |

Product Information |
Beclau agreed during the
verification process to modify the product information to suit
the requirements of this criterion. The revised product
information details directions for use, care and end of life
recycling. |

Environmental Regulations |
Beclau Design Furniture Pty Ltd
complies with the relevant environmental regulations and have
not been prosecuted with regards to breaches to environmental
regulations in the past two years. |
|
Labour, Anti- Discrimination and
Safety Regulations |
Beclau Design Furniture Pty Ltd
adheres to the relevant social requirements and workplace
regulations. The company has not been the subject prosecutions
resulting in a guilty verdict in a court of law in the past two
years. |

3. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations:
GECA also found the Beclau range to
be fully compliant with their obligations under Labour,
Anti-Discrimination, and Safety Regulations. The company
has not been the subject of prosecution in relation to
compliance with labour, anti- discrimination, safety
regulations and environmental regulations.
