     1.   Description of the Technology.

Anibou was founded in 1972 and established in Australia in 1988 with the aim to distribute high quality designed furniture. The products are made in a way which helps to reduce environmental impact of manufacture, from the production of raw material to finished solutions for the workspace.

The company holds the ISO 9001 quality management systems certificate and the ISO 14001 environmental management systems certificate.

In addition, Anibou provides interior design solutions for work offices and public environments.

The Artek range of furniture that has been awarded the Environmental Choice Australia Mark is made using renewable wood materials sourced from sustainably managed forestry operations.

  

 

     2. The Products

 

Artek Stools 60, E60, X600, X601, Y61, 64, K65, 68, N65, 65 & 617: These stools feature ‘L-shaped legs’ and are available in various materials including certified birch ply, certified veneers and recycled solid timbers. The stools are stackable.

Artek Chairs 43, 45, 63, N65, 65, 66, 68, 69, 400, 406 & 611: Artek (Aalto) designed series of chairs with differently shaped backs and seats.

Artek Tables: 80A, 80B, 80C, 81A, 81B, 81C, 82A, 82B, 83, 84, 86, 90A, 90B, 90C, 90D, 91, H92, H94, 95, 96, 97, H98, H99, X800A, X800B, X800C, X800D, Y805A, Y805B, Y805C, 907C, 915, 153A: The table range features dozens of standard sizes and five different surface materials. These tables can be also combined with other standard-sized tables so customers can design their own homes and offices.

Fitness for Purpose

The facilities that manufacture the Artek range are all ISO 9001 certified for Quality Management Systems. Certified products are covered by a 5 year warranty that is endorsed by the manufacturer.

Material Requirements GECS has received evidence of the timber supply chain and species of the timbers used in the production. The evidence shows that the timbers do not come from controversial sources and meet the requirements of the corresponding criterion in the Standard.
Treatment GECS has confirmed that no hazardous treatments, pesticides, insecticides or fungicides are used.
Glues in Plywood and Laminated Wood The formaldehyde content of glues in plywood and laminated wood used for the Artek range is below the limit set in this criterion (1.0% w/w).
Air Emissions Certificates have been provided showing the formaldehyde emissions from the plywood and veneer materials used in the Artek range are below the relevant limits set in the standard.
Polyurethane Padding Requirements The polyurethane padding used in the Armchair 400 contains none of the listed hazardous materials of this criterion.
Fabrics Anibou is upholstering its furniture and fittings in only GECA certified fabrics or fabrics which have been assessed as part of this assessment and found to not compromise the ability of the furniture and fittings to meet the requirements of the GECA 28-2006 (Furniture and Fittings) Standard. This ensures that the fabrics applied to the furniture and fittings will comply with all requirements of GECA 28-2006 (Furniture and Fittings) Standard, including those sections that apply regardless of the weight of the fabrics.
Adhesives The adhesives used in the certified products in the Artek range conform to the relevant requirements of the standard.
Hazardous Materials None of the hazardous or prohibited substances listed in this section are used in the certified Artek range of products distributed by Anibou in Australia.
Separability The certified Anibou products are sufficiently separable into constituent materials for the purpose of recycling without the use of specialised tools or expertise.
Product custodianship Anibou have a product custodianship policy for the Artek range and will accept the product back at its end of life for the purpose of recycling.
Coatings / Treatments The lacquer treatment used on the wood is acceptable since it significantly extends the useful life of these products.
Replacement Parts The terms in the warranty state that replacement parts for these products are available for a period of at least five years.
Packaging Requirements These products are packaged in cardboard or plastic which is not chlorinated or halogenated, both of these materials are recyclable.
Product Information The available product information is sufficient to satisfy the requirements of this criterion. It contains intended use, instructions for care, and instructions for end of life.

        3. Environmental and Social Regulatory Obligations:

 

GECA also found the Anibou range to be fully compliant with their obligations under Labour, Anti-Discrimination, and Safety Regulations. The company has not been the subject of prosecution in relation to compliance with labour, anti- discrimination, safety regulations and environmental regulations in the past 24 months.
