Data Quality within the Green Procurement Database

In order for green procurement officers and everyday Australians to have confidence in the information supplied on this database it was felt that information should be provided as to the accuracy and trustworthiness of information supplied. At the same time it is clear that the area of environmental performance information by suppliers in Australia is only an emerging area, so maximum use of the database by manufacturers was also a priority to encourage the listing of this important information..

The database listings include a reference as to the quality of environmental information provided against each product.

The Good Environmental Choice Label

The Good Environmental Choice certified products have the highest level of data quality assurance having undergone a comprehensive assessment of quantifiable environmental characteristics in compliance to the Australian Ecolabel Program. Products that have this symbol within their listing have been comprehensively assessed for their environmentally preferable characteristics and among the top environmental performers within their product category. The certification process has included an independent inspection of each of the listed criteria by a competent assessor, has likely undergone a site assessment of the manufacturing facility and information collated has been assessed for accuracy and credibility. Only products that are leading performers within their product group are able to display the Good Environmental Choice Label which is issued in general conformation to ISO 14 024 - International standard for third party environmental labelling and declaration programs.
