The Good Environmental Choice Label

Good Environmental Choice Australia Ltd (GECA) has designed an environmental product  or service labelling program with businesses in mind. The program has been developed to deliver a commercial benefit to applicants, by opening  up new markets and establishing market credibility for consumer environmental preference with government agencies, business to business sales, and consumer purchasing.  The certification program also provides the foundations of  an environmental strategy to maintain and improve the  environmental performance of certified members' products well into the 21st Century.

Certification follows a three step process:

1) An application is lodged, leading to the production of a summary assessment of the product, which identifies whether there are obvious barriers to the product gaining certification.

2) A full verification is undertaken to ensure product compliance to the relevant voluntary environmental labelling standard.

3) A license is issued to successful applicants, giving them the right to use the recognised logo on their product, and within related literature and material.

The Certification Service

Technical reports detailing the assessment and the results.

The certification reports are broken up into two key documents. The first is a summary document used as  independent proof of the environmental performance of the product, which may be copied and submitted with tenders, and for all other corporate commercial requirements. This report is developed as a document that the producer can present to  the business community, showing both good corporate citizenship, and a serious commitment to gaining the benefits that flow from good environmental practices.

The second document is the full certification report, which provides details of all of our findings and technical data. Suggestions and recommendations, and any sensitive details, are presented in this separate report, as is any technical data that was gathered during the assessment.

The right to use the recognized logo on the product or service.

The exhibition of the logo on the product gives a clear and unparalleled message, at the point of sale and to the consumer, that this particular product has high environmental credentials and has been certified to independent environmental standards.

An Environmental Declaration.

An environmental declaration, published by GECA regarding your product, is of considerable value in tenders, customer relations, and corporate publications.

The right to use the logo in corporate and product exposure.

Certification gives you the right to place the logo on all company letter-heads and business cards relating to the certified product; to exhibit the logo at the places of manufacture; and through relevant distribution channels; and to use the logo on all promotional and marketing plans for the particular product or service. These latter may include television, print media, pamphlets, promotional information, and all other forms of public exposure.

Product OR SERVICE Recognition on our WEBSITE

All certified products and services  receive a page on our website explaining the grounds for the label, providing an overview of the assessment of the product or service, and giving contact details for the producer and sales' outlets.

Ongoing Product OR SERVICE Recognition as a Good Environmental CHOICE

Various activities are regularly undertaken to enhance the recognition and accessibility of recognised products, including a quarterly certified products register, mail outs to specific industry sectors, and broader public campaigns through avenues such as community service announcements, public lectures, seminars, conference tables, speeches, and regular media exposure.

An audit of performance during the license period.

We will perform bi-annual or 18 month audits of the product to ensure that standards are kept or improved, and that  product performance has been maintained. Clients wishing access to technical information beyond that detailed in the verification report, may have such information delivered at cost.

Any Australian registered business may make an application for certification and will receive prompt and detailed attention to their case. They can expect a call from the appointed project manager within 48hr of us receiving an application, and a response to their application within three weeks.

All applications are considered  commercial-in-confidence and are protected using Quality Assurance procedures.
