A Memorandum of Understanding
between the precursor to Good
Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) Ltd and the Green Building
Council of Australia (GBCA) was signed on
the 5th of October 2005. This agreement is
currently being reviewed in the context of the
recent GECA restructure.
The purpose of this
agreement was to present to the market a
consistent and accurate signal to the
building and construction sectors as to the
real environmental requirements for Greener
buildings in Australia. The organizations
seek to collaborate to promote
greener building products and projects and
give enhanced market reward for environmental
innovation.
GECA and GBCA share the
same mission of promoting sustainable
consumption and an understanding in the
importance of providing the market a
consistent message and framework for
environmental assessment of both building
products and buildings through each others
respective rating tools. The collaboration
compliments each organisations work by
ensuring consistency between both the Green
Buildings Councils Green Star rating tool
and the GECA Good Environmental Choice Label
for building products. |

The Key Objectives of the
Green Buildings Council are:
- To drive the transition of the Australian
property industry towards sustainability
by promoting green building programs,
technologies, design practices and operations;
- To encourage the integration of green
building initiatives into mainstream design,
construction and operation of buildings.
In order to achieve these
objectives, the Green Building Council of
Australia launched the Green Star environmental
rating system for buildings in Australia.
